22 September 2011

Belarusian completed long list of Movistar Team riders for Copenhagen's road race, the Eastern powerhouse debuting yesterday with team's best result (23th) in the ITT The 8-man lineup from Movistar Team for the races at the World Championships in Copenhagen -aside team staff members Juan Carlos Escámez and Ignacio Bernardino (masseurs) and Alexander Gubanov (mechanician) into the Spanish national squad- is completed with a man already taking part in the opening race on Danish soil: Belarusian Vasil Kiryienka. In the season of his breakthrough as one of the top puncheurs in the peloton, proved by his solo victories in País Vasco and the sensational stage of the Giro d'Italia through the passes of Finestre and Sestrière -as well as the overall title in the Route du Sud-, Kiryienka completed yesterday his sixth appearance into the ITT, concluding with a decent 23rd place -the best of five Movistar Team riders at the event- still far from his brilliant performances in Salzburg 2006 -6th place, after making the hotseat for all race as provisional medallist- and Stuttgart 2007 (9th).
