Tour de San Luis (st. 4)

The Spaniard takes the 8th fastest time at the Tour de San Luis ITT after his long breakaway on Wednesday. Tuft (OGE) wins the stage; Kwiatkowski (OPQ) seizes the overall leadership

After the suggering from yesterday’s effort with a 130km breakaway on the first mountain stage in the Tour de San Luis, it was hard to predict a great performance by Eloy Teruel (Movistar Team) in his speciality, the individual time trial. However, today’s clock test over 19.2k in the streets of the province’s capital saw another big ride by the Spaniard, the best from the riders directed by José Luis Jaimerena in a very fast track -more than 51 kph for the top performers- where the telephone squad jumped a step further in the teams’ overall to place in 2nd.

Teruel ended up in 8th, 34 seconds slower than the day’s winner, Canadian Svein Tuft (OGE), yet twenty faster than team-mate Jonathan Castroviejo, just one step behind the top-ten of the day, where Jesús Herrada struggled to lost more than a minute with the best specialists, but still jumped into the 10th spot in the GC, with Castroviejo in 13th. To keep his coveted position, the Spanish youngster will still have to go through two other mountain stages: the first one on Friday will take him to La Carolina after 170k including the infamous Cerro el Amago (Cat. 1).
