Giro d'Italia (st. 2)

Nairo Quintana finishes 20th in Tortolì, completes another uneventful day in Sardinia following good teamwork from Movistar colleagues. Greipel (LTS) takes over Maglia Rosa after sprint win

André Greipel (LTS) scored his seventh stage win in the Giro d'Italia in Tortolì, end of day two (221km), claiming the Maglia Rosa in the process from the shoulders of Lukas Pöstlberger (BOH). The day's racing did not bring any troubles for Nairo Quintana, who crossed the finish line safely (20th), behind the top sprinters, after being covered all the way down to the last straight road by a notable Movistar Team.

Daniele Bennati and José Joaquín Rojas kept the 'Cóndor from Boyacá' away from crashes at a fast run-in to the finish -Bahrain drove the pace through the fast, closing descent of an otherwise slow stage (36.3kph average)-, putting a proper end to an orderly, smart job from the Unzué-led squad. The Blues will have to get through a shorter, surely more intense stage three on Sunday to close their Sardinia adventure: 148km to Cagliari, with no rated climbs, before they get back to the Peninsula on Monday and attack the Etna (Tuesday).
