Tour of Guangxi (final)

Jesús Herrada's 13th place overall in the Tour of Guangxi puts nice end into telephone squad's 38th season at the highest tier of cycling.

Belgium’s Tim Wellens (LTS) confirmed his victory in the final general classification of the first-ever Tour of Guangxi (UCI WorldTour) on Tuesday after riding safely through the final 168km in and around Guilin. The route, which featured two Cat-2 and Cat-3 climbs near the finish, did not prevent another bunch kick from happening -the fifth in six days-, with Fernando Gaviria (QST) as winner.

The Movistar Team didn’t have this time a chance to go on the attack as they did Monday with Jesús Herrada -the only escapes, an early three-man attempt by Irisarri (CJR), Oss (BMC) and Wang (TBM), as well as a jump by Andriy Grivko (AST) into the last ascent, were reeled back in- and had to stay content with 13th overall for the Spaniard, in his last outing in Blue colours alongside brother José and Alex Dowsett.

The Spanish outfit puts end this way to a 2017 season which saw the Blues taking 31 wins. The year was clearly divided into two parts for the Unzué-led squad: plenty of success and all-around excellent performances up to halfway through; lots of difficulties later on, the Movistar management switching its attention to the youngsters which will lead the next era of racing for the Abarca Sports organisation.
