'Sports Analytics' event by LUCA, Telefónica in Barcelona

Movistar Team leader and Telefónica's Chema Alonso tackle virtual version of Lagos de Covadonga climb at Sports Analytics experiment created by LUCA, Telefónica's Big Data unit.

Taking advantage from the Mobile World Congress held in Barcelona this week, and joining Telefónica’s workers at the Movistar Space in Barcelona’s Mobile World Center, Movistar Team leader Mikel Landa and Telefónica’s Chief Data Officer Chema Alonso battled on their bikes and into a virtual competition on Tuesday.

Landa and Alonso compared their metrics at the powerful study put in place by LUCA, Telefónica’s Big Data unit, whose Sports Analytics experiment aspires to improve the way training and racing are analyzed and tackled.

The experiment, which sees riders comparing their strength on virtual slopes of climbs like Lagos de Covadonga or the Col du Tourmalet, will be available to everyone visiting the Mobile World Centre (carrer de Fontanella, 2 / Barcelona) through Saturday 3rd March. Landa also gave a signed Movistar Team jersey to the participant with the best metrics of all who tested their legs on Monday.
