Young (27), yet experienced French rider to cover fundamental area for Jorge Sanz-led squad with her world-class sprinting abilities.

The Movistar Team confirmed Wednesday that Roxane Fournier (Sannois, Val d’Oise, FRA; 1991) has signed a contract for the 2019 season with Jorge Sanz’s squad, and will be a member of the Telefónica-backed outfit in its second year of activity.

The squad managed by Eusebio Unzué will enjoy the services of a top-quality sprinter, who already accumulates -despite being just 26- nine years of international racing experience, the last five as part of a UCI squad at FDJ / Futuroscope. Out of her twenty pro victories, eight have been obtained at top-category events, including two stages of the Route de France (2016), the GP Dottignies (2015) as well as stage victories in the Tour de l’Ardèche (2015), the Trophée d’Or (2014) or the Tour of Chongming Island (2015).

Crashes and injuries -two of them of significant importance at the Ronde van Vlaanderen (April) and the RideLondon Classique (July)- overshadowed Fournier’s 2018 season. The Frenchwoman still fared well at the early-season classics (8th at Drenthe), Germany (2nd, 3rd and 4th at stages of the Lotto Thüringen Ladies Tour) or the summer’s biggest races (5th in the French RR Championships, 6th in a Giro Rosa stage).
