Cyclassics Hamburg
216.4 Kilometers
The 23rd edition of the Hamburg classic will be the opening act of Germany’s biggest week in cycling, completed by the revived Deutschland Deine Tour, which starts on Thursday 23rd. A hunting ground reserved for the sprinters, the EuroEyes Cyclassics has finished with a bunch kick for the past twelve consecutive years, and its route, even if there’s a hilly finale, remains a top chance for the fastest men in the peloton in 2018.
The 216-kilometer course is mainly flat, yet gets harder in its last 70km with the three ascents to the Waseberg, an 800m slope at nearly 7% average whose final summit will be reached 15km from the finishing line. The winding section immediately succeeding the last climb offers the attacks an opportunity to keep their gaps alive and make the ‘volata’ harder, the strongest teams still having room to organize themselves and chase in the flat, wide roads towards the finish in the Mönckebergstrasse.
