Bonus

A characteristic feature of this race for the past few years has been the so-called 'Golden Kilometer'. In barely thousand meters of distance, and always close to the finish, three consecutive sprinters will give 3, 2 and 1" to the three first riders across the banners. The 10-6-4" finish bonuses at the road stages remain just as usual.

Social Media

The race's official Twitter account is @BinckBankTour. Over at @Movistar_Team we'll stay connected with our riders' performances during the entire week, the race only clashing with the Ladies Tour of Norway -Thursday to Sunday- and the Cyclassics in Hamburg, on the last day.

Score

The Movistar Team has two overall victories in its palmarès, under the race's former name (Eneco Tour), thanks to sensational performances from Iván Gutiérrez in 2007 and 2008. The Abarca Sports organisation ahs also got two stage wins: one with Pablo Lastras in Landgraaf ('07) and another by Iván himself, at the Sittard prologue in 2008.

Analysis

It’s the second year under title sponsorship from the Dutch bank Binck for the race formerly known as Eneco Tour, which had been previously held (until 2004) as no other than the Ronde van Nederland.

The event, ridden between Dutch -three stages- and Belgian -four- territories, has reduced its share of ‘mini-classics’ in 2018, from three to just two, set to become, at least until Friday 17th, a true sprinters’ fest.

If we except the traditional short TT on stage two -12km in Venray, on Tuesday 14th-, every and each of the opening five days will be terrain for the fastest men in the bunch, in Bolsward (Monday 13th), Antwerpen (Wednesday 15th), Ardooie (Thursday 16th) and Lanaken.

The weekend’s stages will be the most entertaining ones: an endless series of short hills in Limburg, towards the Tom Dumoulin bike park in Sittard/Geleen (Saturday 18th), and, above them all, the visit to the Kapelmuur and the Bosberg in a spectacular Flanders showdown (Sunday 19th). To add to that, another attractive formula: the ‘Golden Kilometer’ (see ‘Bonus’ section).
