Madrid Challenge (st. 1)
Jorge Sanz-led team just over 1′ behind Sunweb at technical, dangerous course in Boadilla del Monte, prior to season’s end in Cibeles on Sunday.
Team Sunweb took the honours at Saturday’s 13.5km opening team time trial of the 2018 Madrid Challenge (UCI Women’s WorldTour). The German squad (17’40”) was 18″ quicker than Wiggle-High5 and 46″ faster than Mitchelton-Scott, way above a ‘middle class’ of the bunch where the Movistar Team -four top-ten results in as many TTTs this year- sat again in their maiden season’s farewell event.
Biannic, González, Jasinska, Oyarbide, Rodríguez and Teruel had to tackle a very difficult course, really technical -more than ten roundabout, narrow sections, small climbs and sharp descents-, where the Jorge Sanz-led team finished just over 1′ behind the winners yet safely into the first half of the standings.
Sunday will bring the end of the 2018 season with the Blue jersey for the Spanish outfit, over 17 laps and a total 100km in the traditional Cibeles circuit in central Madrid, with plenty of bonus seconds -50″ maximum- up for grabs.
