Analysis

101 editions, no less! There’s no doubt about the Giro dell’Emilia being a race with rich history and worth giving a look just after the World Championships, even if it’s not part of the UCI WorldTour. Its finale makes it even more interesting: the Santuario della Madonna di San Luca (289m), a 2km climb at more than 9% gradient, will be rounding off a very long race, 207km, in and around Bologna.

Before taking on the final circuit, which includes five ascents to San Luca, the race will also feature three other major gradients: the ‘GPM’ of Mongardino (22km, 2,000m at around 7%), the long Passo Brasimone (72km) and the sharp Valico Ganzole (126km; 2.3 kilometers at 10%). From that point, the race will go through winding roads before entering Bologna and starting the decisive circuit with 39km to go.

It’s important to note that there will be another race in the Bologna province on Sunday 7th October: the GP Beghelli, held over also-challenging, yet gentler roads than its counterpart.
