Emirati race starts on Sunday

World Champion and Movistar team-mates to start at 12.50 CET on Sunday’s opening 16km TTT in Al Hudayriat, just outside Abu Dhabi.

It’s a matter of few hours before the maiden edition of the UAE Tour, the mixture of the races in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, starts on Sunday as Alejandro Valverde (Movistar Team) defends the honours conquered with his victory in the final edition of the Abu Dhabi Tour, en route to his World Championship success in 2018.

The marvel from Murcia, who arrived on Tuesday to the Ras Al Khaimah area to inspect the new ascent to Jebel Jais -the key point of the race, mountain-top finish on stage six (Friday 1st March)-, trained on Friday and Saturday with his six team-mates: Rubén Fernández, Lluís Mas, Jasha Sütterlin, Jaime Castrillo, Nelson Oliveira and Andrey Amador, finally recovered from his hand injury back in late January.

After those preparations, Valverde headed to the top riders’ press conference and attended, together with the other Blues, the teams’ presentation prceeding the 16km opening TTT at the Al Hudayriat cycling course, in the outskirs of Abu Dhabi. The Movistar Team will start at 12.50 CET, thirteenth team off out of 20 at the start.
