Mora 5th in Alicante after yet another wet stage

Vuelta CV (st. 2)

Local hero gets into inevitable bunch sprint, dominated by Démare (GFC), as Mas (4th), Oliveira (5th) remain near the top of the standings before Friday's hill-top finish.

A tough day to be a cyclist! It didn’t stop raining for most of the 178km on stage two of the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana, in and around Alicante with a rolling course, suited for sprinters, which Frenchman Arnaud Démare (GFC) dominated with his usually-strong finish. Team-mate Miles Scotson conserved the yellow jersey after his stage 1 win on Wednesday.

Movistar Team went untroubled through today’s racing, with all of its seven riders into the peloton at the end as Enric Mas and Nelson Oliveira kept their 4th and 5th places overall, just over half a minute behind the yellow jersey. In turn, Sebastián Mora got himself into the bunch kick, taking fifth place after Démare, Dupont (BIG), Ewan (LTS) and Consonni (COF).

The Vuelta CV will tackle on Friday the first of two crucial stages, with lots of ups and downs towards the finish in the Alto de la Reina (Cat-2), in Dos Aguas. It will be a tough prelude to the decisive, 14km ITT, from Xilxes to Almenara, the GC likely to be configured before Sunday’s sprint in Valencia.
