Analysis

In an exchange of roles with Milano-Torino, which was a race for sprinters last season and gets back its traditional character in 2021 with the Superga finish, the Gran Piemonte will again become the last sprinter-suited contest of the Italian season, with a route thought for the fastest legs in the bunch – and a relatively short one: just 168km between Rocca Canavese and Borgosesia.

There will be only one short slope in the final circuit, with the last 20km always slightly uphill, yet perfect for the sprinters’ teams to set up the volata. Before that, the riders will have taken on half a dozen climbs, the hardest of which will be La Serra (60km), with 6.7km at 5%.
