Analysis

Gent-Wevelgem is the fourth race of the 2021 UCI Women’s WorldTour, the second held on Flemish soil and a really special one, because, combined with the typical ascents (or not so typical, because this race is closer to the sea and the French border than the Tour of Flanders) and cobblestones, riders will tackle the gravel sections called Plugstreets, roads used during World War I, which are located here around 50km before the end, which turns them into crucial for the race result.

The seven climbs of the race are the other key element, most importantly the combined ascents of the Monteberg and the Kemmelberg, the latter over cobbles. Two ascents of each will be covered, the latter 35km from the finish, which makes it decisive as the pace doesn’t stop after the race reaches that point.
