Analysis

After the Ardennes, the Movistar Team will be all but closing its 2020 season -at least for those riders not involved in Grand Tours- with three Northern Classics, starting with Gent-Wevelgem. It’s a first contact with the cobbles and hills typical from Flanders -not the same used at ‘De Ronde’ on Sunday 18th, though-, also combined with the ‘plugstreets’, three gravel roads originally used during World War I and now covered by the WorldTour peloton in its fierce sporting battle.

The most significant sections of the parcours will be, however, the climbs to Monteberg (two ascents) and the cobbled Kemmelberg, overcome three times. The first two climbs (Belvedère side) will be followed by a brutal final climb (Ossuaire road), with steep slopes that will try to break the peloton 34km before the line. From that climb, a long flat section, quite wind-exposed, will dictate the leaders’ fate at an always demanding, fast race.
