Analysis

As it celebrates its 75th anniversary edition, the Circuito de Getxo adds three crucial factors to its 2020 race for extra awarenress: a new, more demanding route; professional, live TV; and a quite stronger field of contents, with many new WorldTour outfits sending their best sprinters.

The 177km route of this Basque Country event features two different circuits. The first six laps will be covered over a route known from the 2019 race, with the Txomintxu slope (900m at 7%, maximum over 10%) at every passage through the Arkotxa finish + the Alto Quirón / Akarlanda (600m at 5%) halfway through every lap. However, the final, longer loop includes the Pike Bidea climb next to Bilbao, 2.2km at 9.4% average, with its summit 16km from the finish line. The attacks to prevent the bunch sprint should happen there.
