Analysis

The Movistar Team returns to Almería just few weeks after a nice training camp in the area, this time to open the 2021 Spanish full-pro calendar. The schedule was heavily affected by the current health situation, and only the huge commitment from organisers ALCIDE and the Almería provincial council have allowed racing in Spain to start before the spring.

The Andalusian event remains a sprinter’s race, even if there’s been a significant change for the event with a new starting location, Puebla de Vícar. The race’s other main characteristics stay intact from previous years, with three climbs to spice things up early on -Celín (Cat-2), La Alquería (Cat-3) and Fuente Marbella (Cat-3)-; the Cuesta de Almerimar (Cat-4) as final ascent about 50km from the finish; and the winds as the biggest difficulty before the final local laps in Roquetas.
