The Movistar Team has won the overall classification of the Vuelta a Andalucía up to nine times, five of which -an all-time record- were claimed by Alejandro Valverde (2012, 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017).
The Ruta del Sol returns, in not-so-usual dates yet happily in the calendar, for a 67th edition which removes any time trials from its route, giving protagonism to the climbers in a five-stage parcours which crosses Andalucía from west to east.
A gentle stage one, with no big climbs yet with an uphill finish in Zahara de la Sierra (Tuesday 18th), will be followed by a hilly stage two, Wednesday 19th, with the Alto de la Hortichuela (Cat-2) just before a tough hill-top arrival in Alcalá la Real.
Thursday 20th, riders will tackle the Queen stage, with six categorized climbs -including Cat-1 Alto del Yelmo and La Toba- and a Cat-3 finish in Villarrodrigo. After that, the sprinters will have their chance in Cúllar Vega on Friday 21st, before tackling a short, explosive showdown towards Pulpí, Almería (Saturday 22nd), climbing the Alto de la Geoda (Cat-3) just before the line.
