Analysis

He couldn’t miss it! The 41st edition of the Vuelta a Murcia, held on Sunday 23rd May, will have its most decorated rider and local hero Alejandro Valverde at the start, the former World Champion starting his preparations for the Olympics at home.

The 188km race will not end in Murcia’s Gran Vía this time to avoid public gatherings, and doesn’t publish its timetable with the same goal -we don’t do it, either-. Before the peloton gets to Alcantarilla’s finish, four climbs will have to be covered, all of them well known by the locals: Aledo (Cat-3), Collado Bermejo (Cat-1), Gebas (Cat-3) and the Cresta del Gallo (Cat-3), less than 20km from the end.

– It’s important to note that, due to the date changed caused by the third wave of the pandemic in Spain, the Vuelta a Murcia had to be reduced from two days to one to remain in the packed Spanish calendar of May.
