Unzué is, by his own merit, one of the prestigious managers in Spain’s sports in history. His career started as a sports director for the yough and amateur Reynolds squad, from 1974 to 1984. He had already been collaborating with the professional outfit since its inception, but it wasn’t until 1985 when he joined the staff full-time. Since then, thirty-six seasons have seen the man from Orcoyen leading what is arguably the best Spanish cycling team ever.
Eusebio Unzué has led his riders to victory in seven Tours de France, four Giros d’Italia, four Vueltas a España and many other competitions around the world. A reference in our sport which has rebuilt with Movistar Team a character the squad had kept in its core for most of its history: big leaders supported by strong domestiques, all going for glory in three-week stageraces.
