Analysis

The 20th edition of the Durango-Durango Emakumeen Saria will mark the start of the Movistar Team’s first ever ‘Big Week’ of Basque cycling, with two of the best races in our calendar. The demanding routes of this classic in Bizkaia and the upcoming Bira will test the legs of the best climbers in the ranks of Jorge Sanz’s team, facing competition from some of the best riders in the world at the 113km route around Durango.

The race is divided into three circuits. The first one, comprising about 18km per lap, will tackle the Alto de Miota (2km at 3.2%) five times, adding some wear and tear the peloton before the race crosses the second intermediate sprint in Abadiño (-23km) and heads for the final two loops, way tougher than the initial one.

The second circuit will see riders climbing towards Goiuria (Cat-3) via the village of Garai, 5km with slopes around 6% and a maximum 11%; at the third, taking a shortcut to get back to Garai, Goiuria becomes a Cat-2 ascents, with one kilometer at 11% and another one at 7% just before the summit, reached 6km from the finish in Durango.
