Gran Premio La Burundesa
33 Kilometers
Never before had a cycle race gone past so close to Abarca Sports’ current headquarters in Egüés, Navarra. Just very few meters separate the route of the first ever Gran Premio La Burundesa -final event of the 2018 Spanish National Series for women- from the door of the Service Course from which the Blue outfit is managed and its vehicles are headed to everywhere in Europe. Kirol Bat Triatloi Taldea, the organisers of the amateur Vuelta a Navarra, have thus created a race for the Telefónica-backed squad to close their Spanish spring campaign on their home roads.
The 80km course will be twisty, lumpy, with some concrete sections –those connecting Egüés’ industrial zone with Gorráiz, or the village of Ilundain- and five significant ascents: two climbs to Ardanaz / Aranguren (a climb divided into two, with 1.8km at 5% + 1,100m at 4%); an ascent through the ‘muro’ of Gorráiz (1,000m at 5%); and two passages through the ‘muro’ of Badostain (1,050m at 7%), the latter of which will be completed just 5km before the finish in Sarriguren.
