Analysis

A novelty in the UCI calendar for the 2019, the Donostiako Klasikoa is a Basque race set to be one of the biggest chances of every season for the best climbers in the world. With more than 2,000 meters of elevation gain in its 126km parcours, the riders will also have a chance to tackle the very same hills their men’s counterparts will climb later that Saturday.

After the initial ascents to Jaizkibel (41km) and Arkale (64km), the peloton will cross the finish line for the first 49km before the end. The race will then head towards the hill of Mendizorrotz (90km), a side of the Mount Igeldo, with 4km at 7.3% average + maximum slopes of 19%. The race will go down to Orio and Usurbil before reaching the finish again and face the decisive, more known Murgil Tontorra (119km), with 2.1 kilometers at 10.1%.
