Analysis

Quite a few important changes in an otherwise nearly intact spirit for the Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne, the second round of the Belgian spring classics campaign, which the Movistar Team will be back at following their debut in the event in 2019.

Up to 11 climbs will be part of the 201km course, where the sprinters will still stand most of the winning chances, yet with the ambition by the top guns still offering room for a race as exciting as the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad was just one day prior.

The main changes are the inclusion of the Oude Kwaremont, less than 60km from the end, which could make for real, significant splits in the bunch, and the Kluisberg, the last ascent, fifty kilometers before the finish, ending a 40km loop with up to seven ascents. From there, the routes will be easier and allow the sprinters’ teams for better organisation heading into the final circuit (15km) in Kuurne.

– The women’s Movistar Team will also be competing in Belgium on Sunday, yet in a different event: the Omloop van het Hageland.
