Analysis

She doesn’t stop. Ten days after raising her arms victorious at the Ronde van Vlaanderen, Annemiek van Vleuten will be captaining again the Movistar Team at the Brabantse Pijl, which sort of marks the start of the ‘hilly season’ with Amstel, Flèche and Liège following just afterwards.

There will be no less than 22 little ascents to cover at this 127km race from Lennik to Overijse, a route comprising two point-to-point sections; an initial loop around the Alsemberg -the traditional finish of the race when it was only a men’s event-; and a final circuit around the finish, with five climbs.

The 23-kilometer circuit featuring the hills of Hagaard (500m, 8%), Hertstraat (300m, 8.4%), Moskesstraat (800m, 6%), Holtsheide (700m, 6%) and Schavei. The latter, 1.2km at 4% with maximum slopes of 12%, is crested just 200m from the finish, at a turn left after which the riders, if needed, sprint over a flat straight.
