Analysis

After a very happy 2023 race, with a stage win -his first in the WorldTour- for Einer Rubio, who will be back at the start line this year, the Movistar Team returns to the UAE Tour with an aim at the spotlight again following a good start to their 2024 season.

The wind should – especially in the opening stage towards Liwa (Monday 19th) – be a protagonist of a race which, other than the expected bunch sprint finishes in the capitals (Dubai, on Thursday 22nd; Umm al Quwain, Friday 23rd; and Abu Dhabi, Saturday 24th), will have three major reference points.

The Al Hudayriat cycle track will hold a 12km individual time trial on stage two (Tuesday 20th), while two well-known mountain-top finishes will decide the GC outcome: the long, hard-at-points Jebel Jais (Wednesday 21st), the highest mountain in the country, and the traditional, irregular Jebel Hafeet (Sunday 25th) to end the event.
