Nairo Quintana receives unanimous recognition as 2013 Colombian Sportsman of the Year, crowns a success-packed season

The 2013 Colombian Sportsman of the Year award gala held this morning (local time) in the JW Marriott Hotel in Bogotá had Nairo Quintana as its main favourite and eventual winner, the Movistar Team rider having conquered the heart of the fans and press as well as several big climbs in his yet short career, aged just 23.

The man from Cómbita was recognized with a prize offered by the newspaper El Espectador and sponsored by Movistar, which credits the media impact by a season that saw him become the best-ever Colombian performer in the Tour de France -2nd overall, as well as the KOM and young jerseys and the stage win atop Semnoz- for a total seven victories, including overall triumphs in both the Vuelta al País Vasco and the Vuelta a Burgos. Caterine Ibargüen, world athletics champion in Moscow in the triple jump contest, was the winner of the female prize.
