Movistar Team says farewell from Argentina after big outing
23 January 2011

Movistar Team said goodbye to the Tour de San Luis, the Spanish squad’s début on South American turf, today as the victory in the race’s individual time trial was the biggest prize for them. The squad directed by José Luis Jaimerena on Argentinian soil played a main role in the race, the most important competition in the continent.

Right from the start with the breakaways by Chilean Carlos Oyarzun and, above all, with the excellent level showed by Xavi Tondo, winner of the ITT and leader for the two hardest stages in the race, in which he held the role of main contender to the final triumph, Movistar Team was on top of their game all over the week.

It will be engraved in the fans’ minds how Xavi Tondo fainted when it seemed like he couldn’t lose his overall victory in the race. His composure and the company by all the squad, who rode alongside him until the very finishing line, fifteen minutes after the first rider, was as emotional, if not more, as the scenes of his triumphant moments. The last stage in this year’s Tour de San Luis finished in the province’s capital with a mass sprint won by Uruguay’s Héctor Aguilar, with all Movistar Team riders in the bunch, where the final winner, Chilean Marco Arriagada, also came to secure his top spot.
