Analysis

The longest uninterruptedly standing stagerace in the UCI Women’s WorldTour (32 editions) is back in 2019 with a route with no respite, tough and interesting in every and each of its four stages. There won’t be an individual time trial this time around, while the sprinters will indeed have a chance at the opening day in Iurreta, with just two Cat-3 ascents and lots of stress in a flat final 30km (Wednesday 22nd).

The ups and downs will dictate the pace on stage two (Thursday 23rd), around Aduna and Amasa, before the two decisive stages: day three (Friday 24th), with wind-exposed roads before the tough Opakua (Cat-1) and Santa Teodosia (Cat-2, mountain-top finish); and the rutal finale (Saturday 25th), a whooping 156km with the climbs of Udana (Cat-3), Atagoiti (Cat-2), Untzilla (Cat-3) and Asentzio (Cat-1).
