Analysis

The fourth season of the women’s Movistar Team starts with a historical moment. At the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, the opening classic of the Flemish calendar, Annemiek van Vleuten will make her first appearance in the Telefónica-backed squad’s jersey, while also defending her brilliant victory from last February in Ninove in what was her first race back after the 2019 world road race title.

A strong roster by the Dutchwoman’s side will tackle a 126km course, with seven cobbled sections and up to ten climbs -the last seven, barely 30km apart- which will leave its wear and tear on the riders. The last two ascents are the most significant, with the Kapelmuur (-17km) and the Bosberg (-13km), over tremendous gradients which always make a difference and leave only the world’s best at the front.
