Movistar Team away from trouble at day two in Sicily -with Soler on the attack near the finish-, looks forward to Caronia's lopes in first of two key stages in Italy.
Sebastián Molano (UAD) continued his winning streak from the eve’s racing as he took the day’s honours on stage two of the Giro di Sicilia, over 173km starting at the Selinunte archaeological park and finishing next to the beach of Mondello, in the island’s capital city of Palermo.
The Colombian won the bunch sprint, with a wide margin against Matteo Moschetti (TFS, 2nd) and Jakub Mareczko (THR, 3rd), in an otherwise uneventful day, with a six-man breakaway kept well in check by the sprinters’ teams and only one significant attack from the group, led by Marc Soler (Movistar Team), on the only slope of the finishing circuit, 6km before the line.
Alejandro Valverde continued to gain racing form before the two decisive stages in Sicily. Thursday’s route will finish with a 2.7km, 6% avg. climb in Caronia, before the race’s most significant climb, Sciarra di Scorciavacca, just before the end of Friday’s showdown.
