Sixth men's signing for 2024

The 'TGV from Clermont-Ferrand', current French TT champion and a strong rouleur and team player, inks three-year contract with Eusebio Unzué's outfit.

The Movistar Team’s signing announcements for its 2024 men’s squad reach its sixth chapter on Thursday with the addition of Rémi Cavagna (Clermont-Ferrand, FRA; 1995). The French rider, coming from Soudal – Quick Step, will be part of the Blue outfit at least through the end of the 2026 season.

The current French individual time trial champion joins the Movistar Team with six years of WorldTour experience under his belt, appearances in all three Grand Tours and undoubtedly his best season to date in 2023.

Other than the French title obtained in Cassel, the ‘TGV’ (as he’s affectionately known, in a resemblance of his home country’s high-speed train) won the European mixed relay championships in Essen (NED); took a stage -solo escape- plus the GC of the Tour of Slovakia; two wins in the Settimana Coppi e Bartali; and a silver medal in the TTT Worlds. He was also 3rd at the Tour de Romandie and Critérium du Dauphiné time trials, 6th in the demanding Tour de France TT – he’s surely a man to follow when it comes to efforts against the clock.

REACTION:

Rémi Cavagna: “It’s a new challenge – after seven years with Quick Step, which I enjoyed and learnt lots of things from, I felt it was the moment to do something to reach my maximum potential. Like in QST, coming into the Movistar Team feels like being part of the history of cycling, with so many big names having competed with these colours. I’m really proud to join this squad, and also hungry and willing to bring my value. I want to win, for sure, but I also enjoy helping the guys achieving great success and building something together. I already know some of the guys, and I’m so happy to be joining them in 2024.

“I’ve got a lot of things in the horizon for the upcoming three years. I will discover the Northern Classics with the team, with its crazy atmosphere – I’m excited to be part of the cobbles team, those will be nice races to discover. Also, as everybody knows, I’m also a TT specialist – over the last two years, I was good but I missed some power. I want to reach my full potential, work on the position and all aspects of performance and aerodynamics. That discipline is so much important to me. If I want to be one of the best, I’ve got to work a lot for it.”
