Circuito de Getxo
193.5 Kilometers
The race will be broadcast at the organisers’ official website, www.puntagalea.com.
The Abarca Sports organisation has won in Getxo six times, always with different names: Carlos Hernández (1983), Víctor Gonzalo (1990), Jeremy Hunt (1997), Vicente Reynès (2007), Giovanni Visconti (2012) and Carlos Barbero (2017).
It will be another emblematic start to the Circuito de Getxo, as the Basque race, a regular feature of the summer calendar in Spanish cycling, will start from Bilbao’s Guggenheim Museum in its 76th edition after last year’s depart from the Vizcaya bridge. From the Basque city, the race will roll for a few kilometers before entering a lumpy cirtcuit, where numerous climbs will try and prevent the almost-inevitable bunch sprint.
The ascent to Pike Bidea (2.2km at 9.4%; summit with 17km to go) will be the main difficulty, into the last climb of a circuit which will previously feature two other climbs: the so-called Alto de Aiboa, always known as Txomintxu (900m at 7%), where the race always has its finish; and the Alto de Quirón, an easier slope of 600m at 5%.
