Analysis

The men’s Movistar Team’s activity outside the Tour de France resumes after the National Championships resumes in no less than the island of Sardinia, where the GS Emilia is organising the first edition of the so-called Settimana Ciclista Italiana. It’s a five-day stagerace, over lumpy roads, yet open for sprinters and all kinds of competitors, which will mark the start of a broad ‘summer campaign’ for the Blues, here directed by Maximilian Sciandri and Jorge Sanz.

The race will travel north to south of the island, starting from Alghero (Wednesday 14th) with what looks like the most decisive stage, climbing the ‘GPM’ of Scala di Ciocca with just 3km left from Sassari’s stage one finish. Also on hard routes, over 2,000 meters of elevation gain yet with flat finishes, are days two -Thursday 15th; the La Madonnina KOM placed 60km from the ‘arrivo’ in Oristano- and four -Saturday 17th; three categorized climbs towards Cagliari- of the race. All stages after Wednesday’s are suited to the fastest finishers in the bunch.
