All editions of the race so far have seen some degree of involvement from the Movistar Team. The 2018 event was won by Sara Martín -then with Sopela-, while the 2019 race went to the hands of Lorena Llamas -in her last few months as a pro with the M-branded team- and the 2021 edition saw Annemiek van Vleuten taking 2nd to now-retired Anna van der Breggen.

Analysis

Quite a significant change, and one that will make this race quite more open. Having used the same finish for both of its marquee events in 2021 -the GP Ciudad de Eibar and the prestigious amateur race Memorial Valenciaga-, atop the Santuario de Arrate, the women’s race of the Club Ciclista Eibarrés goes back in 2022 to its traditional finish in downtown Eibar, which will give many more riders an opportunity to fight for the win.

A more coastal parcours this season, the race will climb 2x Itziar and 1x Meagas before heading back south towards its most important, decisive climb: the Alto de San Miguel, over 5.2km at 4.7%, which will be crested with 12km to go. The last kilometer, while featuring some slopes at 4%, is not too hard.
