Analysis

A new feature in the men’s Movistar Team’s calendar and a likeable addition to the pro calendar, the Mercan’Tour Classic (born last year in 2021) revives a traditional event from the 1990-2000s, the Classique des Alpes, over a course made only for climbers. This race is held quite closer to the south and the coast, near Nice, over 168km that contain three big ascents.

La Colmiane, over 7.5km at 7.2%; La Couillole, a really long 16km at 7.3% average; and the finish atop Valberg, 12km at 7.4%, make for an interesting, spectacular event to close out the month of May. An event after which many eyes will inevitably turn towards France, for the imminent TDF, Critérium du Dauphiné, Mont Ventoux Challenges or Route d’Occitanie.
