Analysis

The ‘walls’ in the Monte Igeldo area, next to San Sebastián, will again be decisive, the main feature, on the route of the Klasikoa’s 42nd edition. Placed, just like in many other occassions, on the Saturday after the conclusion of the Tour de France, some riders shining in the ‘Grande Boucle’ and those aspiring to do well in the late season will clash on Basque soil.

After overcoming Meagas (Cat-3), Iturburu (Cat-2) and Alkiza (Cat-3) early on, the last 100km will be really demanding, while traditional. Jaizkibel (Cat-2; 93km to go) will create the first selection; Erlaitz (Cat-1; 73km remaining), with its tough slopes, should already see some significant attacks before going down to San Sebastián for the final circuits; and the last two laps will decide, with Mendizorrotz (Cat-2; 27km to go) and, most importantly, Murgil (Cat-2; 8km left), 2km at 10% avg.
