As a prelude to the Tour of Oman, which will start a day later over the same roads, the Sultanate’s organising committee and Amaury Sports Organisation are bringing up a new one-day event aroudn the capital city, Mascate, over a course ideal for classics riders.
The route comprises an initial flat section of around 80km and a second half full of small, steep ascents: Bousher al Amerat (85km in; 3,500m at 9%), already used at the stagerace; Wadi al Kabir (135km; 2000m at 7%); and, most importantly, a dual ascent of Hamriyah (900m, 10%) and Al Jissah (1.1km, 10%), the final passages covered with 21 and 4km, respectively, from the finish in Al Bustan.
