The Movistar Team has four victories in San Sebastián with its different sponsors. Miguel Indurain claimed the win in 1990, Luis León Sánchez notched up the victory in 2010 and Alejandro Valverde got two, in 2008 and 2014.
The organisers of the ‘Klasikoa’ have taken in 2024 another step ahead in their quest for ever-harder finishing climbs towards Donostia’s famous Boulevard. The brutal Pilotegi ascent, 2km at 11.7% with maximum slopes of twenty-seven per cent, will decide the Gipuzkoa race, which restarts the WorldTour calendar after the Olympics.
Another six climbs will be covered before the decisive hill, with Andazarrate (Cat-3) early on; Azkarate (Cat-3), Urraki (Cat-2) and Alkiza (Cat-3) halfway through the race, and Jaizkibel (Cat-2; 8km at 5.6%) and Erlaitz (Cat-1; 3.8km at 10.6%), quite closer to the finish than usual -61km and 41km, respectively-, which, considering how the peloton thinks, should make them more significant, even if Pilotegi is covered after the passage through the finish and with just 7.6km to go.
