Analysis

Settled in the UCI WT calendar as a five-day event already for a couple of years, the Renewi Tour is the Northern Classics specialists’ biggest chance to win a GC in a top-tier event: short and sharp ascents, high speeds and a cobbled showdown.

The biggest difficulties, overall classification-wise, will be put into three stages in particular. The opener in the Limburg area, Riemst to Bilzen on Wednesday 28th, features the climbs of Slinger -on Dutch soil-, Hallembaye and Les Coteaux -these two in Wallonia-. A day later (Thursday 29th), a 15km ITT in Tessenderlo will start creating the first real GC gaps. And on Sunday 1st, the traditional Geraardsbergen stage will see the riders take on the Kapelmuur, the Bosberg and the Onzekelerstraat, all of them on ‘kasseien’.
