Unrewarded fight in Llodio
23 April 2011

Andrey Amador's fourth place, just a step behind the final podium, was the best result for Movistar Team in the 62nd Gran Premio de Llodio, ridden on Basque soil Saturday over a classic 172km rolling parcours.

The squad directed by José Luis Arrieta had a very active role all race, with presence over all important groups and even four riders -Amador, Sanz, Iriarte and Oyarzun- into the 20-man group that played out for victory in the three conclusive laps over the loop including the slopes of Malkuartu and Garate.

Already into the early moves of the day, Movistar Team put their chances as Iván Gutiérrez and Javier Iriarte were later joined by Imanol Erviti and Fran Pérez to lead a 40-rider group from which eight units, with Gutiérrez and Erviti in dual Blue representation, jumped later. The Spanish champion, really active on the stage, was into the lead until the penultimate lap along with Marque (Onda), just before the race got selectioned in the final lap, with twenty on the front and Movistar Team working for Andrey Amador, who started his sprint too early behind Santi Pérez (BAR), who made his decisive move in the final climb and took the victory with a handful of seconds over the first group. Amador had to content himself with 4th place, just ahead of today’s brilliant team effort by Sanz, Oyarzun and Iriarte.
