One step behind the podium on Nat ITT

Movistar Team came short for the medals in the pro individual time trial of the 2011 Spanish road Championships, held over a technical, hilly parcours of 44 kilometers around the town of Vall d'Uixó near Castellón, where Luis León Sánchez (RAB) retained the victory notched up in Villarrobledo a year before.

Cantabrian Iván Gutiérrez, several times winner, ended in fourth place, just under two minutes behind the winner and after Castroviejo (EUS) and Contador (SBS), who completed the podium; in turn, Jesús Herrada, whose first participation in the Elite ITT came aged just 20 after winning the event up to three times as junior and U23, came in 5th place after having achieved the top spot for most of the field during the two intermediate times.

The two Movistar Team specialists will take part, alongside their fifteen teammates from the telephone squad -Rubén Plaza will thus complete his recovery after the tibia and fibula suffered back in March- for the big race in the championshios, the road race (12.30 CET) over 196 kilometers starting at the Castellón airport and coming into the capital city after the final circuit around the Alto del Desierto de las Palmas.
