Lagunas hardness avoids podium finish

Movistar Team sticks to GC guys and finishes with López, Lastras and Pardilla into final top-ten, unable to keep individual podium and teams' victory in Queen stage Movistar Team had a bittersweet taste into their throats at the end of the Vuelta a Burgos. The riders directed by José Luis Arrieta kept the quota of protagnism earned during the race, but couldn't keep their podium places -in both individual and teams' ranks- at the final stage of the Castilian event. The hard 155k trek towards the top of the Lagunas de Neila (HC), including four other climbs in the finale, got broken into pieces through the ascent to the Pasil de Rozavientos (Cat. 1), just over 30k from the finishing line, with only seven riders hanging on as Sergio Pardilla was the only man in blue to resist the hard pace by Mikel Landa (EUS), eventually the stage winner.

Despite David López entering the main group at the downhill and Lastras, Arroyo and even youngster Jesús Herrada bridging the gap before the final climbs, the final ascent soon caught all Movistar Team riders out. The telephone squad could still keep a good pace and limit losses to take 6th (López), 7th (Lastras) and 9th (Pardilla) in the final overall, won by Joaquim Rodríguez (KAT). The Spanish race ends for Movistar Team as a good test, with Blues claiming attention with a strong block that won the team time trial -it was Movistar’s first in the speciality- in Belorado, a race that will be remembered thanks to the incredible average speed -close to 70 kph-.
