“It was a great start to the Vuelta”

Eusebio Unzué satisfied about Movistar Team's fifth place in Benidorm's opening team time trial, Blues only 14 seconds off winners' pace Movistar Team completed a great team time trial in the 13k course that opened the 66th Vuelta a España. The telephone squad claimed the fifth place in the day with a strong team performance that allowed the squad getting just 14 second off the pace by winners Leopard Trek -Jakob Fuglsang took the first leader jersey-. The group directed by Eusebio Unzué came across the line with eight riders -only Chente García Acosta got dropped from the row- and even dreamt of a better result after an outstanding ride over the first part of the parcours, where they were losing only three seconds on the provisional leaders. With their moral over the moon after a great kickoff, Movistar Team will now embark on the first road stage in the 2011 Vuelta, over 174 kilomters from La Nucía to Orihuela, marked by the wind and with a predictable sprint -should the win not avoid it- at the finish.

Eusebio Unzué: “We knew that doing a great TTT could bring us into the best five. Balancing out our strength with the one from our rivals, we’re really satisfied about this fifth place. We did a great piece of work and are satisfied about this Vuelta start. We were aware that the first part of the course was crucial four us, because we have four of five good climbers, and that’s also important in a TT like this because most teams reached the finish only in five. It was a pity because Chente only lost contact into the final slopes of the descent, because he could have been an important rider in the finale, but in a TT like this and with our full steam on the opening phase, we knew that not all nine could do it perfectly. Tomorrow’s stage seems like a sprint finish, but we have to keep attentive to the win, because surprises might happen.”
