Sanz finds troubles in final sprint, gets out of contest for win in capital city’s Olympic Park, with Galimzyanov (KAT) in dominating mood as Martin (THR) confirms overall triumph
Movistar Team weren’t able to farewell from their first-ever Asian adventure from top places as they notched up in the previous stages of the Tour of Beijing (UCI World Tour), concluding on Sunday in the outskirts of the Olympic Stadium after a 118k circuit race in the Chinese capital, where World time trial champion Tony Martin (THR) seized the overall victory. Spaniard Rubén Plaza took the 13th position in the GC after the final bunch kick, won by Galimzyanov (KAT) after an action-packed sprint where Enrique Sanz could not get inside after taking his first top-ten place in China yesterday. The young rider from Orkoien, in very good position in the run to the finish, had troubles that made him drop, with Ángel Madrazo eventually as best Yvon Ledanois’ team finisher in 15th. The squad will return tomorrow to Europe in order to complete their 2011 season on Saturday with the Giro di Lombardia, the last monument of the cycling season.
