Tour de San Luis

The Italian and the Basque will be, along with sprinter Fran Ventoso, the best winning chances for Movistar Team's second Tour de San Luis appearance, departing for Argentina on Thursday 19

While some of their teammates race the opening 2012 World Tour event in Australia, a second Movistar Team expedition led by José Luis Jaimerena will fly on Thursday at late night from Madrid to the Argentinian region of Cuyo, where the 6th Tour de San Luis (2.1), one of the most important races in South American where the telephone squad made his continent debut in 2011, will take place from January 23-29.

Argentina will be the place where two of the Blue newcomers in 2012 will kick off their season. Italian champion Giovanni Visconti and Basque rouleur Jonathan Castroviejo will have a good shot at victory in their first team outing, making part of a team also including Fran Ventoso -the other winning option for the Blues-, David Arroyo, Enrique Sanz and Andrey Amador.

The key points of the Tour de San Luis will concentrate in three days: Wednesday 25 will mark the first mountain-top finish in the Mirador del Potrero (Cat. 1) after having climbed the 2,100-meter Alto de Nogoli (also Cat. 1). A day later, the 19-kilometer individual time trial in San Luis’s capital city will define a GC outcome to be definitely solved in the slopes of the Mirador del Sol (stage 5, Friday 27).
