Movistar Team's lead on the squads ranking grows stronger after great outings by Visconti, Arroyo and Amador into race's first mountain-top finish
The first mountain-top finish in the 2012 Tour de San Luis was the first stage win of the season and the immediate leadership for Alberto Contador (SAX), the strongest into the ending climb of the Mirador del Potrero de los Funes, a Cat. 1 ascent as end of the 168k trek starting at Estancia Grande. Movistar Team kept their notable level in this year’s Argentinian event and makes a consistent gap on top of the teams’ classification with a fine outing by Giovanni Visconti (10th) and David Arroyo (11th), both into a first pursuit group almost made by Costa Rican Andrey Amador, sitting now in 11th overall, just two places behind Arroyo, the best Blue in 9th, 45 seconds behind Contador. The fight against the clock tomorrow during day 4 will surely clarify the overall, with 19.5 kilometers out and back to San Luis where Movistar Team took last year its first-ever victory with the late Xavi Tondo. The second mountain-top finish at the Mirador del Sol is scheduled for Friday.
