Early end to Mallorca challenge

Trofeo Serra de Tramuntana

Snow forces Trofeo Serra de Tramuntana, last race in the Balearic islands, to be cancelled as Movistar Team's plans change to a last training ride before returning home tonight

The 2012 Challenge de Mallorca is over earlier than expected on Wednesday due to bad weather. Snow fallen over the island overnight and even at noon today, which forced several ports in Mallorca to be closed, led to organisers, jury and team DS’s to hold an improvised meeting at Sóller’s city hall, where the Trofeo Serra de Tramuntana, fourth and final event of this week in Baleares, was cancelled.

The lack of alternative routes avoided Movistar Team crowning their good performance in Challenge, with yesterday’s outing just one step behind victory with Rui Costa’s 2nd spot in Deià. In this final day before returning home -some of the team’s riders are already in France for the Tour Med-, the Blues switched their competition mood for a training ride for two hours before returning tonight into the Iberian Peninsula.
