Spaniard gets into final sprint, ranks now in 7th as thirteen riders have the same time of the podium places before Sunday's closing march into Barcelona
The suspension of the Queen stage in the 92nd Volta a Catalunya on Wednesday is keeping the overall classification into a handful… of places. Except for the race’s solid leader Michael Albasini (GEC), with one minute and a half over the nearest competitors, and today’s winner Samuel Sánchez (EUS), no less than thirteen riders have the same time and will battle tomorrow for the coveted top-ten places in the first Spanish WorldTour event of the season. Among those, Movistar Team’s leader for the race, Sergio Pardilla, sits now in the 7th spot after fighting into the mass sprint -led with two seconds of advantage by Sánchez- that took stage six to an end into Badalona’s final circuit. Pardilla was 16th and will go for a better place tomorrow in the GC as the last ride in the Volta includes four climbs and a short, nervous route of 119 kilometers, finishing at Barcelonese suburb Sarrià around 3pm CET.
Position account after stage six: 3. Van den Broeck (73 p.); 4. Martin (84); 5. Urán (108); 6. Cunego (LAM) (115); 7. Pardilla (129); 8. Kiserlovski (132); 9. Cataldo (134); 10. Carrara (135); 11. Danielson (138); 12. Menchov (154); 13. Szmyd (165); 14. Kruijswijk (191); 15. Stetina (230).
