Telephone squad in search for a home victory hiding for more than a decade in the race named after the big Navarran champion

Movistar Team faces as hopeful as usual what will be again the biggest week of cycling in northern Spain, as they look for their eighth victory in the only professional event crossing over strictly Navarran roads. With eight victories in the race’s palmarès with its former name, the squad directed by Eusebio Unzué is looking for a ninth success since 1998. To achieve it, José Luis Arrieta will direct a ten-man squad composed by Juanjo Cobo, Ángel Madrazo, Vasil Kiryienka, Rui Costa,  David López, Rubén Plaza, Jonathan Castroviejo, José Herrada, Vladimir Karpets and Enrique Sanz. Alejandro Valverde will not be in eventually, the Spaniard still not recovered from his hard crash in the Volta and waiting for his return after his recovery is full.

The characteristic signs of the GP Miguel Indurain (UCI 1.HC) keep unchanged from previous editions, and the demanding slopes of the Basílica de Santa María del Puy will be the decisive point -with two passes through the line prior to the proper finish- into a 179k trek around Estella that reaches its 14th edition honouring the name of the best Spanish cyclist of all time.
